Sovereign cloud for the public sector: IONOS available via govdigital

Berlin/Karlsruhe, 18 July 2024. IONOS is one of the cloud providers that members of the cooperative of public IT service providers govdigital will be able to use for their digitalization in the future. Cities, municipalities as well as state and federal institutions will thus have quick and easy access to the data-sovereign IONOS cloud platform and can thus drive their digital transformation forward. With a total of 27 members, govdigital covers the vast majority of public IT service providers. Members of the cooperative include the Institution for Municipal Data Processing in Bavaria, Bundesdruckerei, ekom21 and the State IT Authority of Baden-Württemberg.
"By having easy access to cloud resources, public authorities can drive forward their digitalization and provide cloud-based citizen services or online services from public authorities, for example. It is now important to implement the first pilot projects securely and quickly. Our partners are an essential lever for this," says Achim Weiß, CEO of IONOS. The comprehensive IONOS partner ecosystem includes many companies specializing in the public sector with many years of experience.
IONOS was selected as one of the cloud providers via its partner BTC Business Technology Consulting AG. BTC acts as a cloud broker and provides govdigital members with a low-threshold entry into the cloud. Users can easily select the IONOS Cloud in the cloud broker portal.

IONOS is the national superscaler in the govdigital multicloud offering

As part of the German administration cloud strategy, govdigital members and their sponsors can choose between the services of several cloud providers. Achim Weiß: "Customers can start immediately with IONOS at the highest security level. The IONOS Cloud stands for true sovereignty and 100% GDPR compliance. We are the first German provider to have the BSI C5 certificate and IT basic protection certificate. We have been working for large organizations in the public sector for many years and can support other customers on their journey to the cloud at any time."
In the spring of this year, the ITZ Bund, the IT service provider for 200 federal administration authorities, awarded IONOS the contract to set up a private enterprise cloud. This is one of the ITZ's most important multicloud projects. IT.NRW, the central IT service provider for the state administration in North Rhine-Westphalia, also relies on the IONOS cloud platform. IONOS has already been successfully implementing IT projects with some public IT service providers such as dataport for many years.
